Alexander McQueen Designs

Lee Alexander McQueen, a British fashion designer born in Lewisham, London on March 17, 1969, is the youngest of the brood of 6. Ronald, hello dad, was a London cab driver while Joyce, his mummy, was a social science teacher. Janet, Tracey, Jacqui, Tony and Michael are the names of his siblings.

At the age of eight, he was often provoked by his schoolmates as McQueer as he reputedly had a growing interest in the fashion world. When he was 16 years old, he left school and started working for Anderson & Sheppard. He later landed a tutelage program at Savile Row at Gieves & Hawkes, where he served well-known personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev and the Prince of Wales, having embroidered a suit for the latter. He requested work as a pattern cutter tutor at Central Saint Martins University of Art and Design ( now known as London Central Saint Martins ) and was swayed to enrol as a student following his electrifying certifications. He later launched his degree show in 1991 where the entire line was bought by stylist Isabella Blow. In 1992, he completed his degree and immediately started on his very own womens wear clothing line.

In 1996, he was employed as head designer of the Givenchy fashion line. As he faced rough sailing in the company, he sold his share in 2000 to the Gucci Group. McQueen honoured his contract with Givenchy and stayed with him until March 2001, the day when the same expired. In the year 2004, McQueen launched his very own line of mens wear and established specialized shops in new york, London, Milan, Las vegas and Melrose Avenue in L. A. . His designs finally became the fave of well-known celebrities such as Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna. By 2005, he made a special line of trainers for Puma resulting from a partnership with the latter. He also launched McQ in 2006 which featured a much affordable and younger line for both women and men.

Among McQueens achievements include being accorded British Designer of the Year 4 times by Britain Fashion Council and Chief of the Order of the UK Empire. In 1997, he was personally sought by Iceland frontman Bjork to help work for the cover of her album Homogenic. He ultimately directed the music promo of Bjorks song, Alarm call. In 2009, Camilla Belle wore a dress designed by him and which was afterward listed by Instyle Magazine as one of the hundred Best Dresses of the Decade.

McQueen was famous for bringing drama and discussion, with some of his collection even being called the Highland Rape. His runaway shows were radical, infusing new twits and energies, and he even started many trends such as low-rise jeans, bumsters, and the utilization of skulls in designs. He's one of the few designers who started making use of Indian models in London. His recent design to date was the manta which was taken after the manta ray.

Sadly, McQueen was discovered dead in his home last February 11, 2010, more than week after his mum had died. At that point, he was 80% finished on his autumn / winter collection which was presented and picked up by fashion editors at the 2010 Fashion Week in Paris. In May 2010, McQueens long-time helper usurped the reins of the company.
